1 - 2 March 2018, Emperors Palace Convention Centre, Kempton Park
Legal Education Conference in South Africa, hosted by the Law Society of South Africa in association with Monash South Africa Law Department (MSA Law)
From a Disjointed to an Integrated Legal Profession:
The Design of Appropriate Practical Vocational Training for Legal Practitioners
The legal profession is currently undergoing profound change, largely in response to the transformational changes envisaged in the Legal Practice Act 28 of 2014 (LPA) and globalization.
One of the contentious areas in the transition from the current dispensation to the new dispensation has been the practical vocational training (PVC) that candidate attorneys and pupils must comply with before they can be admitted by the court as legal practitioners in the LPA dispensation.
Currently, the Justice Minister is considering three PVT models presented to him by the National Forum on the Legal Profession (read more on these here).
The content of the LLB degree has also been a topical issue in recent years.
The Legal Education Conference on 1 and 2 March 2018 at Emperors Palace Convention Centre in Kempton Park will explore the perspectives and experience of legal practitioners and law academics on these issues. The Keynote Speaker will be Professor David B Wilkins, the Lester Kissel Professor of Law and Faculty Director of the Center on the Legal Profession at Harvard Law School. VIEW THE PROGRAMME HERE.
